Heather Nichols
U10, U12, U14 Head Coach Blue 2012  Executive Director

Coach Nichols played locally for Monacan High School. She then continued her Field Hockey with Division I Virginia Commonwealth University, helping the Rams achieve a national ranking of 19 her senior year.

Coach Nichols’ coaching experience has been at all levels. She coached a middle school program for Collegiate School. She has coached the JV level for Trinity Episcopal School and Monacan High School. She coached Varsity for Monacan HS taking them to the VHSL State Tournament in 1996. She also coached for Swift Creek Rec program for several seasons before joining the coaching staff of the Panthers in the fall of 2009.

Coach Nichols lives in Midlothian with her husband Mark and four children all of whom are active in the Panthers program.

 

Margie Snead
Indoor, Spring, Summer Board Member  Executive Director

Margie Snead has been heading up the Varsity Field Hockey program at Trinity Episcopal School for 20 years. Having played at Trinity herself and then at the College of William and Mary, coach Snead is one of the most respected high school coaches in the area. Coach Snead was a member of the US Lacrosse team and also played Soccer in college for the Tribe. Coach Snead helps out with the summer seasons and winter indoor. She lives in Chesterfield with her husband and two girls who also play for the Panthers program. Margie is a director executive of the Panthers Programs.

 

Katie Ellis

Katie Ellis is a Senior at Bridgewater College where she plays field hockey and lacrosse. She played her HS years at Trinity Episcopal School where she is a varsity Field Hockey and Lacrosse player for the Titans. She heads up the U10 program with Lauren and also assists with all other teams. She went through the Panther program before being recruited to play in college.

 

Chaney Manganello

Manganello is in her first year with the Lancers after joining the program in July 2015. A former standout at William & Mary, Manganello played in the midfield and on the back line for the Tribe from 2010-2014, earning her Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and health science.

Chaney joins the Lancers after spending the past year as a graduate assistant with the field hockey program at VCU. With the Rams, she assisted in developing on-field training sessions while also coordinating numerous activities off the playing surface. Manganello spearheaded the program’s service and community outreach initiatives, managed the team’s social media account and planned the VCU field hockey alumnae basketball event. 

During her year at VCU, Manganello earned her Master of Education from the Center for Sport Leadership.

Prior to her stint at VCU, Manganello played four seasons of field hockey for William & Mary. During her playing career, she served as the team captain in 2013 and was named a Second-Team All-CAA selection. Manganello would add CAA All-Tournament honors to her close out her career with the Tribe.

Over the past year, Manganello gained additional coaching experience by lead the St. Catherine’s Middle School basketball and lacrosse programs. In addition, she has coached at the Field Hockey Futures Program for the past three years, a training camp geared toward elite high school prospects.

Outside of field hockey, Manganello has gained experience in sports marketing, serving as an intern with the Australian Football League. While in Sydney, Australia, she planned and implemented community focused events such as clinics and junior fan clubs.

A native of Richmond, Manganello now resides in Farmville.

 

Taylor Herold

Herold joined the Longwood family and field hockey staff in July of 2015. A Virginia native, Herold returns to the Commonwealth after spending the past four years at Penn State, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Recreation Park & Tourism Management while minoring in business.

At Penn State, Herold was a four-year standout on the prestigious Nittany Lions’ field hockey team. In her four seasons in State College, Pa., the Nittany Lions advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament each year and thrice participated in the Elite Eight round.  Herold was a part of two Big Ten Regular Season Championships in 2012 and 2013 while adding a pair of Big Ten Tournament Championships in 2011 and 2012.

As a junior, Herold was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and was a Big Ten All-Academic honoree. In her final campaign at Penn State, Herold racked up First Team All-Big Ten recognition along with NFHCA First Team All-Region, Second Team All-American and All-Academic honors. The forward led Penn State with 18 goals and 43 points in 2014 and ranks ninth all-time in program history with 52 goals.

Off the field, Herold was a four-year participant in the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON). She took part in the athlete hour while also running in the 5k event. Herold also volunteered to work several of the booths and activities during THON. In addition, she also volunteered with Penn State Ability Athletics, working with the wheelchair basketball program.

A native of Fredericksburg, Herold was the 2010 VHSL Female Athlete of the Year and Field Hockey Player of the Year while playing at James Monroe High School.

 

Chelsea Davies

Assistant coach Chelsea Davies joined the Richmond staff prior to the 2014 season.

Davies, a 2014 University of Richmond graduate, joins the Spider staff after a stellar four-year campaign as the Spiders’ top midfielder, leading Richmond to an Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA appearance in 2011.

The 2010 A-10 Rookie of the Year was a three-time First-Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree and a two-time Second Team NFHCA All-South Region player. The Madison, N.J., native graduated this past May with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, finishing her career with 24 goals, 27 assists and 75 points in 85 games played. 

Davies capped off her outstanding career playing in the 2013 Front Rush NFHCA Senior Game.

She was also a member of the USA U-17 National Team and USA Senior High Performance Team prior to enrolling at Richmond.
